Ahead of the 2026 Ekiti governorship election, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has formally declared his full support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s re-election bid saying that there is no contest.
The Senate President, who pledged his unwavering commitment to Oyebanji’s re-election disclosed that President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly members are solidly behind his re-election.
Senator Akpabio made the disclosure on Wednesday when the Senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District, Cyril Fasuyi paid him a visit in Uyo.
It was gathered that few moments after Senator Fasuyi’s arrival at the Senate President’s residence, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Surajudeen Basiru arrived as well.
A political conversation about the forthcoming Ekiti 2026 governorship election ensued where Senator Fasuyi put a phone call to the Director General, Bureau of Community Communications, Mrs Mary Omotosho.
During the phone conversation, Senator Akpabio dropped his own bombshell about Ekiti saying: “There is no contest in Ekiti State. I congratulate you people in advance. Governor Oyebanji is not only Asiwaju’s son he is also our favorite at the National Assembly.”
The Senate President went further to describe Governor Oyebanji as God fearing and humble noting that he stood behind his emergence to become Senate President.
“He is God fearing and humble. He is one of the Governors who stood by me to become a Senate President and so I will stand by him now.”
On the phone conversation, the DG said to the Senate President, “Sir, I thought they said you were flown abroad for an emergency medical reason?”
However, Senator Akpabio laughed and said: “Well, I am the one speaking with you on the phone right now” while Senator Fasuyi then went further to say he would send a picture of them together to confirm that he is stable and is in Nigeria.
