Ekiti Govt Procures 2000 Wheelie Bins for Effective Waste Collection

The Ekiti State Government through Ekiti State Waste Management Authority, EKS-WAMA, has procured 2000 Wheelie Bins for effective waste collection in the state.

Addressing newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday, after receiving the 2000 wheelie waste bins, the EKS-WAMA Director-General, Mr Olasunkanmi Onipede, stated that the goal is to enhance waste collection in homes and business environments.

The DG revealed that the initiative will complement the efforts of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s led-administration to revitalize the state’s waste management sector noting that the bins will be sold at a subsidized rate for Ekiti people.

His words: “We got an approval from the governor to procure 2000 wheelie bins. Approval was gotten and all due processes were followed. Order was released to a company – an indigenous company in Lagos, fortunately all these bins were delivered yesterday night.

“This will support us in boosting our waste management operations and aid our house-to-house collections. The last time Ekiti State government procured these bins was in 2012 but fortunately all these processes was done and completed within three months.

“This will aid our waste management operations in terms of efficiency and aid our private sectors to help them pick their waste from nylon bags into these bins. It will also aid the people in the markets, corporate bodies, MDAs, among others.

“It will to sold to them at a subsidized rate and we will ensure the prices doesn’t affect our people. We have off takers that are going to benefit from it and it is a must that every house have a waste bin in Ekiti.”

While charging residents of the state to manage their waste effectively, Onipede commended Governor Oyebanji for his continuous support towards ensuring efficient and eco-friendly waste disposal practices in the state.

Recall that the Oyebanji-led administration had procured dino bins, waste collection trucks and other large waste management equipments for a clean and healthy Ekiti State.
