The Special Adviser to Governor of Ekiti State on Security Matters, Brigadier-General Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd.), has reassured residents of the state government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
Ogundana gave the reassurances when he featured as a special guest during the interactive S’etigbo multicast, anchored by the Bureau of Community Communications, on Tuesday, in Ado-Ekiti.
He declared that the state is currently the most safest state in Nigeria, attributing it to the combination of proactive governance, efficient security systems, and strong community collaboration.
The governor’s aide credited the remarkable peace to the swift and decisive actions taken by the state government under Governor Biodun Oyebanji to address security challenges.
According to him, “this commitment to peace has not only ensured safety but has also fostered an environment conducive to development and progress, attracting investments and encouraging social growth.”
Ogundana lauded the governor for his hands-on approach in securing the state, emphasizing that he has consistently demonstrated unwavering support for law enforcement and security agencies in the state.
“Under the governor’s leadership, Ekiti has seen enhanced cooperation between traditional rulers, local government officials, community leaders, and security forces, all working in synergy to ensure a secure environment.
“This level of commitment underscores the administration’s prioritization of the people’s safety above all else. The governor’s efforts to facilitate regular meetings with security personnel and collaborate with local leaders has resulted in effective information-sharing mechanisms and rapid response to emerging security threats.
“The key component of Ekiti’s security strategy has been the significant investment in infrastructure and resources to aid security agencies. These measures are designed to not only prevent crime but also to allow for quick mobilization of security forces in the event of emergencies.
“The installation of surveillance cameras, for instance, has enhanced monitoring capabilities, giving authorities real-time data to track and respond to suspicious activities. Similarly, the provision of vehicles for security operatives ensures that they can reach any part of the state without delay, particularly in remote or rural areas that are traditionally harder to monitor.”
He further emphasized that the success of Ekiti’s security framework relies on a collaborative effort between government agencies, security operatives, and the people themselves.
“The state government has worked hard to ensure that all relevant security agencies, ranging from the police to the military and paramilitary forces are well-coordinated, sharing intelligence and working together in a unified effort to maintain peace.
“While security agencies are working diligently, he noted that there is still a gap in the flow of information from the public to the authorities. Many security breaches could be prevented if residents were more proactive in reporting suspicious activities or potential threats.”
While reassuring the people of Ekiti that their safety is of paramount importance to the state government, he noted that security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure that Ekiti remains peaceful and urged all citizens to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and work together with the government to sustain the peace that has been achieved.
