The member, representing Ikere 1 Constituency in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Tunde Oke has said that the synergy between the legislature and the executive is driving impactful development in the state.
Speaking as a guest on the interactive S’etigbo multicast, anchored by the Bureau of Community Communications, the lawmaker, who doubles as the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, said the government of Biodun Oyebanji respects the principle of separation of powers.
According to him, the state has witnessed rapid development and effective democratic evolution rising from the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government.

His words: “For the period of two years under review, it has been a very cordial relationship and I have to appreciate the governor for his support and for not allowing undue interference from the executive arm of government which is very unusual.
“For us in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, we are operating independently the way the constitution permits it to be done. We have been able to summon heads of ministries, departments and agencies, LGA and LCDA chairmen to come and render account of stewardship which has never happened in the history of Ekiti State.
“That shows a cordial relationship because the governor respects the principle of separation of powers and we also understand the separation of powers. All of us believe in the independency of the three arms of government.”

The lawmaker explained that that the recent endorsement by the Assembly members and public plenary session was aimed at reaffirming their support for the re-election of the governor and bringing democracy closer to the people noting that they remain committed to enacting laws for the benefit of the people.
“As representatives of the people, we believe that we should also involve them in our plenary session as representatives of the people. We want the people of Ekiti State to be part of the endorsement of the governor. We took the plenary session to the people and when we pulled up the question, everybody said yes.
“The Ekiti State House of Assembly remains dedicated to making laws that enhance the wellbeing of Ekiti people. Immediately after the inauguration of the 7th assembly, a clear legislative agenda was set, reflecting the house’s focus on laws that meet the state’s needs. Remarkably, there’s no rancor among members; all are united in their goal to serve.

“Since its inauguration, the 7th Assembly has passed 24 impactful laws, including the Electricity Power Sector Law to generate and distribute power, and the Sports Commission Bill to establish an independent commission. Other laws promote healthcare quality, regulate MDAs, and encourage local production, like the law mandating Ekiti wear Adire every Wednesday to boost local artisans.
“To ensure transparency, the Ekiti State House of Assembly has embraced technology, digitizing its activities. This has earned them recognition as the best in ICT integration in the country, fostering spontaneous feedback and greater accessibility for the people.”
