L-PRES project targeted at advancing agricultural development in Ekiti, says State Coordinator

The Ekiti State Coordinator of Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project, Olayinka Adedipe, on Tuesday, said the initiative is targeted at advancing agricultural development in the state.

He said that the L-PRES project is committed to complementing the efforts of Ekiti State government towards improving livestock productivity and strengthening livestock value chain in the state.

Adedipe stated this in Ado-Ekiti during the interactive S’etigbo multicast, anchored by the Bureau of Community Communications.

According to him, the L-PRES project in Ekiti, which is jointly funded by the World Bank and the state government, will continue to attract strategic investments in livestock production towards ensuring food security and value addition in the state.

He emphasised that the establishment of strategic investments in the state such as the construction of two ultra modern cattle markets, Broiler Processing Plant and Semi-Automated Poultry Pen Estates will create employment opportunities, drive innovation and ensure productivity.

His words: “We have been able to carry out so many trainings for our livestock farmers, particularly, the trainings that will assist them to improve businesses. We complementing the efforts of the state government in terms of animal health by rehabilitating the veterinary clinics in the state.

“We are also complementing that efforts through construction of water points for our animals in the grazing areas around the state and we are still going to do more this year for the grazing reserve and water points.

“The strong area in terms of livestock production in Ekiti State is poultry production and we are trying to complement that efforts of the state government by having a commercial processing plant for livestock production for value addition.

“Rather than taking our best out of Ekiti State, we can easily process them here. We have a brand for this frozen chicken so that we can sell them to other states. Instead of taking our money out of Ekiti State, other states can begin to pay us for the value we have added to our products.”
