Ekiti farm settlements now safe from insecurity, herders’ attacks – Council Chairmen

Some local government chairmen in Ekiti State on Tuesday declared that farm settlements in the state are now safe from incessant insecurity and herders’ attacks.

Chairmen of Gbonyin local government, Hon. Benedict Ajayi and Aiyekire local council development area, Hon. Adeyemo Davis, stated this during the interactive S’etigbo multicast anchored by the Bureau of Community Communications.

The council chairmen noted that the combined efforts between the local governments and the state government have yielded positive results in tackling the issue of insecurity that previously led to deaths and disruption of planting seasons.

The chairman of Gbonyin local government said that communities in the area no longer bear the weight of fear and insecurity as he had empowered the local security network to protect lives and property, particularly at the farmsteads.

Ajayi emphasized that the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji has continued to impact positively at the grassroots level through people-centered policies and infrastructural developments.

According to him, “we have done a lot in complementing the efforts of the governor at the grassroots level. We have graded all the township roads and farm settlements, provided electricity by doing extension to the streets and communities.

“Likewise the issue of insecurity but we have been able to empower the Amotekun to cater for the security of our people. Now, our area is peaceful, safe and calm. People can now do their farming without the fear of herders and all these marauders because we have been able to empower the Amotekun, OPCs and we bought motorcycles for them.

“Likewise in education, we do assist pupils in their social educational activities. Presently, one of our students from Aisegba won a medal at the 1st African School Games in Algeria. We were able to empower the youths and the elderly and more projects are in the pipeline for us to do. We are trying to put structures at the local government secretariat.”

His counterpart from Aiyekere LCDA, who highlighted some of his achievements in line with the six pillars of the Oyebanji’s administration, commended him for restoring electricity in the area adding that the governor has performed credibly well in fulfilling his campaign promises.

His words: “We have key into the six points agenda of the governor at the local governments and we have been doing infrastructural, agricultural developments, even youth empowerment and every other thing the governor has in mind to do for Ekiti people.

“We have been in darkness for the past 50 years but when the governor came on board, light was restored and people are demanding for extension. Roads to most of our farms are bad and they find it difficult to bring their agricultural inputs. We grade them and fixed where they need drainage, culverts and so many other things we have done at the local governments.”
