Ekiti State government has rehabilitated an abandoned 21-year-old girl from Ilupeju-Ekiti, rescuing her from neglect and potential harm.
The state government through the Bureau of Community Communications intervened after the estranged mother deserted the malnourished girl, accusing her of being a ‘witch.’
The girl, whose condition drew public sympathy after a radio program aired her ordeal in Ado-Ekiti, received attention from the state government.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti, the Director General, Bureau of Community Communications, Mary Omotosho, said the compassionate leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji waded into the matter by providing help to the victim.
According to Omotosho, moved by her urgent need, the bureau promptly began the process of assistance by securing an accommodation for her, provided food items, sponsored her graduation from tailoring training and subsequently acquired sewing machine upon her completion of the training.

The DG noted that this initiative aligns with the routine intervention programs of Governor Oyebanji, stressing that his administration has deep passion for the less-privileged and vulnerable people in the society.
Narrating the plight of the girl, Prophet Yakubu Onimajemuayo recounted how he rescued the girl in Aramoko-Ekiti after the mother abandoned her in the streets without convenient shelter.

According to the cleric, after he took custody of her for a period of time, he observed that she was stable and of sound mind devoid of any witchcraft claims.
The cleric explained that he sought public and government intervention by taking the matter to the popular radio simulcast, ‘Omo Edema’ where the state government swiftly intervened with standard procedure in handling such matters.
Speaking during the state government-sponsored tailoring graduation (freedom) of the 21-year-old apprentice, the Director of Ojulari Fashion Designer, Folasade Azeez commended her tenacity and dedication during the period of the apprenticeship scheme.

Amidst tears of joy, the 21-year-old old girl, Blessing Ojo, showered encomiums on the governor for extending his compassionate care by intervening in her matter saying that the successful completion of the apprenticeship scheme and donation of sewing machine will be of immense help to her.
