Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Tuesday, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the education sector through speedy approval of the demands of teachers in the state.
The governor made the pledge at the statewide grassroots and strategic interaction with Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Ekiti State Chapter, ahead of the June 20 governorship election.
Oyebanji noted that since the inception of his administration, labour unions have not gone on strike and attributed his administration’s investments in welfare, infrastructure, and human resources to President Bola Tinubu for the provision of resources.
According to him, “Since we assumed office, we have not witnessed any strike by labour unions. We have maintained fidelity to your salary, gratuity, arrears and promotion arrears.
“We have tried our best with infrastructure, provision of water. All sectors of the economy have been touched because we have a President who have made resources available to all states of the federation.”
While soliciting their support during the governorship election, Oyebanji urged the teachers to intensify efforts through sustained grassroots campaign towards achieving the 500,000 votes target.
Earlier, the National President of ASUSS, Comrade Sola Adigun highlighted the ground-breaking achievements of the governor to Ekiti teachers and described him as a jinx breaker.
“I want to sincerely appreciate you from the deepest part of my heart. In 2022, we came to your campaign office with our demands, and you made promises to us. Everyone seated here today can testify that you fulfilled those promises. That is why I call you a promise keeper and a jinx breaker.
“You are the first political leader to gift us a bus. You cleared all arrears of salaries and promotions, and to our surprise, every outstanding salary has been paid.
“We wrote to the Head of Service that workers in the state were ready to contribute ₦200 monthly after the subsidy removal to procure buses. However, the Governor went ahead to provide buses to convey workers to and from work free of charge. That is the kind of Governor we are celebrating today.”
In his remark, Chairman of the Oyebanji’s Campaign Council and Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele charged the teachers to reciprocate the gesture by voting overwhelmingly for the governor at the poll.
